Rhinoplasty

Nose basically has two important points. One of them is breathing function. A healthy nose provides sufficient air intake to both nose cavities, moistens and heats the air with a sufficient rate. Other important point of the nose is its location on the face which affects the appearance. In a successful rhinoplasty, the nose should be handles in terms of function and aesthetics. Rhinoplasty can be carried out with open technique (with a small incision on columella) or closed technique (without an external incision). The technique is determined depending on patient’s needing, however, open technique is preferred for the patients with much deformity. Operation is carried out under general anesthesia and lasts 2-2.5 hours. At the end of the operation, a small brace is placed on the nose but if it is not necessary, nasal packing or splint is not placed.
Patients are hospitalized for one night for post-op pain control (In general, rhinoplasty causes less pain) and regular cold application (to be able to minimize edema and bruises). Patients are discharged in the next morning with the recommendation of a simple medical treatment and nose cleaning. First control examination after the operation is carried out on the 6th day, nose plaster is removed and nose is left open. In this control examination, the patient is recommended to perform a nose massage to treat edemas quickly for one month. In most patients, bruises are seen as a line under the eyes and treated within 3-4 days. Final appearance after rhinoplasty is depending on the patient but in general it takes 6-12 months. In this period, edema on the nose decreases and details appear day by day. Nose tissue hardening after the operation gets softer and gains a natural appearance. Although, the nose recovers completely within 1 year, in most of the patients, it recovers with an extent that it does not affect social life within 1 week and within 1 month, it completed the recovery time in a huge extent.
