Buccal Fat Removal (Bichectomy)

Bichat fat pad is a deep fatty tissue located a few cm outside the lip edge. This tissue is one of the support tissues of the midface and continues in the temple area. Since it may cause the face to appear wide in some patients, “Bichectomy” surgery, which means the removal of Bichat, can be performed. However, there is an important thing to remember that this surgery is not suitable for every patient and it is very important to select the appropriate patient.
The surgery can be performed with local or general anesthesia and takes approximately 15 minutes. The incision is approximately 1 cm inside the mouth and is closed with self-dissolving stitches. Hospitalization is not required after the surgery. There are no additional recommendations other than cold application and liquid nutrition for a few days.
The slimming effect on the face does not appear immediately due to the edema that occurs in the area after the fat pad is removed; it takes 3-6 months for the effect to become fully evident.
