Botulinum Toxin (Botox) Applications
One of the most popular applications recently is toxin application in which toxin of the bacteria called Clostridium Botulinum is injected, it inhibits acetylcholine release and prevents muscle contraction and decrease secretion in secretory gland. Toxin has many commercial types and the most widely used one in Turkey is Botox product of Allergan company and Dysport product of Gen medication company. This medication effects for 4-8 months depending on the patient and location, and it is used as follows:
- Treatment of wrinkles around the eyes and on forehead
Toxin application is used mostly for horizontal wrinkles, Crow’s feet and vertical wrinkles between brows. In these areas wrinkles occurred due to gestures become permanent and deep. Toxin application removes wrinkles and provides a relax and young look and prevents the wrinkles to deepen. In patients who are applied toxin regularly, around the eye and forehead look smooth and young. Thanks to anesthetic cream used before the application, pain is minimized. The application takes approximately 5 minutes. After the application, bulges occurring during the application recover within half an hour and our patients can get back to their daily lives. The medication starts to effect within 2-4 days and net effect appears within 7-10 days. In our clinic, we call our patients after 7-10 days and if necessary we apply an additional dose.
2. Treatment for excess sweating (Botox for Sweating)
Hyperhidrosis is an clinic condition which causes excess sweating in armpit, palm and sole and leads social problems. Botulinum toxin is a very powerful solution for excess sweating by inhibiting secretion in secretory glands. This procedure takes 5 minutes and provides solution for up to 1 year. In armpits, while it is sufficient to apply cream for topical anesthetics for pain control, for sole and palms, local nerve blockage is applied.
3. Treatment for grinding (Masseter Botox)
Our chewing muscle called massater is located in front of jaw cavity. In some patients, volume and thickness of this muscle is more than normal, for this reason it causes the jaw to look fatter by forming thickness on the both sides. Secondly, in some patients, as the muscle activates at night, it can cause grinding and indentation. Grinding may cause huge problems in jaw joint.
